What to expect when renting a storage unit

Your First Storage Unit Rental in Centennial, CO

Never rented a storage unit before? We’ll walk you through the process.

Once you’ve selected a size and unit type that fit your belongings best, you can rent a storage unit online. After you’ve entered your information and set up payment, you’ll get a confirmation email with a move-in date. Bring a valid ID to the facility, along with your belongings to store – getting set up doesn’t take long!

You’ll meet with the facility manager and go over your lease agreement. The lease agreement isn’t a long-term contract like an apartment rental. It goes over when rent is due and outlines our facility’s rules and policies.

After you’ve signed off, you’re ready to move in! DTC Self Storage makes the process quick and easy for you, with indoor and drive-up storage units in Denver Tech Center available today. Get started with your first storage unit rental online in just 90 seconds!

How Does Storage Unit Sizing Work?

Common storage unit sizes and what they can store

  • 5’ x 5’ storage units act as a second closet. A stack of boxes will fit here.

  • 5’ x 10’ storage units can store the contents of a one-bedroom apartment.

  • 10’ x 10’ storage units have enough space for a two-bedroom home or apartment.

  • 10’ x 15’ storage units could store everything from a three-bedroom apartment or home.

  • 10’ x 20’ storage units can store everything in a three-to-four bedroom home, plus the contents of your garage!

  • 10’ x 30’ storage units hold even more space, giving you room for belongings from a four-bedroom house and garage with more room to spare!

First-Time Self Storage Renter Advice

Just because you’re new to storage doesn’t mean you have to go in blind! Here are some quick tips:

  • Leave an aisle when you’re storing so you can reach your belongings

  • Label boxes clearly with labels you can see even when they’re stacked

  • Put at-risk items in sealed containers in a low-humidity area

  • Use a bag of DampRid to reduce humidity in your storage unit

  • Your rental’s on a month-to-month basis, so you can store for a few months and move out when you’re done

  • Stored items will take up much less space when condensed into a storage unit. Don’t measure the room they’re in, measure the items!
